Contagion OOH

Spotted in Toronto, a rather unusual OOH for the new movie Contagion:

As they say, it’s rather a piece of art than a piece of communication, as almost nobody pays attention to this. But that might not be the point. I put this into the category of communication initiatives that are not made to be seen by consumers, but by the media.

Nice Idea Gone Wrong? Nikon App Endorsment

The below photos are the first 10 that appear in an app on my iPad (last week’s iteration, as the app updates weekly):

Associating Nikon with consumer generated photography in a free app (owned by a photography magazine) is sensible. The fact that the camera and lenses used to take each photograph are mentioned should have made Nikon or the media company think.

Nikon doesn’t appear at all in the first 5 pictures, appears once in the first 10 and about 3-4 times in the first 20. Canon appears 7 times in the first 10. Checked a bit the web and it seems Nikon is trailing closely Canon in worldwide DSLR market share (both are around 30%). As far as I remember though, Canon used to have a firmer lead, so the gap in terms of cameras on the market is even wider than the 1-2% points present statistics would show. That makes this media placement quite a poor decision….

Update: Strategie de lansare iPod

Continuare la postul de mai jos, nu am rezistat sa nu cumpar Newsweek-ul care are copertile asa:

Coperta  1 in dreapta si 4 in stanga, daca nu era clar.

Se cer imediat cateva intrebari: a platit Apple pentru coperta 1? (este adevarat ca Steven Colbert in spotuletul lui spune ca Apple nu a platit pentru coperta – eu nu sunt atat de sigur… desi, in articolul despre Apple, care e elogios de-a dreptul, reporterul se plange ca nu a putut obtine un interviu cu Steve Jobs – mda); a stiut Amazon ca Apple va fi pe coperta? daca a stiut e bine ca a luat coperta 4?

Strategie de lansare iPad

Saptamana trecuta s-a lansat iPad in state. Nu o sa mai vorbesc de produs, ci despre cateva lucruri pe care le-am vazut pe aici. Si despre ce nu prea am vazut – si anume spotul. Au lansat un spot la Oscaruri pe care nici nu ma obosesc sa il postez, ca nu are nimic special.

In schimb vad iPad-ul peste tot la televizor, dar nu in pauza de publicitate. Il vad asa:

- remarcati momentul in care prezinta Newsweek-ul – care are pe coperta 1 iPad-ul (coperta cumparata? – Stephen Colbert spune ca nu) – si pe coperta 4 Kindle-ul – publicitatea comparativa dusa in product placement :)

sau asa:

(ok – asta e mai veche, am gasit-o cautand show-ul de mai sus pe care l-am vazut seara trecuta la TV).

sau asa (in serialul “Modern Family” cica…):

Este adevarat ca fata de primele cazuri, asta (primit via) pare slab, dar cred ca e oricum mult mai bun decat niste spoturi de 30′.  Sunt convins ca au mai fost si altele, pe astea le-am bunghit rapid.

Apple investeste enorm in publicitate (77 milioane $ pentru iPad anul asta conform NYTimes) si cred ca mare parte este non-traditionala. Product placementul este mult mai destept (si greu de facut ca lumea) decat publicitatea clasica.

O alta arma a lui Apple, nu ar trebui uitat, sunt magazinele (din nou destul de non-traditional, in mod cert in modul in care o face Apple). Nu o sa fac acum o analiza (nici nu am datele, asa ca nu are sens sa bat campii) apropo de cat de eficiente ar fi magazinele lor, dar o prezentare la care am asistat ieri mi-a dat o informatie foarte tare. Magazinul Apple din New York este considerat (prin cercetari) in top 20 atractii ale orasului. Daca nu va suna special, ganditi-va un pic…

Prima oara cand am vazut asta, am zis ‘hehe’, am filmat-o si am mers mai departe. Se mai intampla (desi nu ar trebui, de asta exista contracte, firme de media, nu?)…

Dar se pare ca e mai degraba o regula, mai ales pentru cei de la Renault:

Ce e culmea, la o privire mai atenta, e ca toate cele trei masini reprezinta aceeasi categorie (categoria de fals 4×4 daca e sa-mi exprim parerea personala, ca de aia e blog)
